Grown with Waterwick

The new way of growing in a sustainable way. In which not only the potting soil plays a role,
but the entire growth process from watering to the energy

The new cultivation of the future

Grown with Waterwick

A new cultivation system has been developed in collaboration with Viscon (Waterwick), in which Karma Plants acts as ambassador to further promote this in the market. The process took 3 years and in the end gave a great result. It is a sustainable and easy growing system where each plant can feed itself as needed. In addition to the ultimate sustainable aspect, in which water is fully absorbed and recycled, there is also a lot of interest in the market for the ease of care that it entails.

Cultivation system

The cultivation system 'Grown with Waterwick' is the new future for sustainable cultivation! It has many advantages for the entire market, such as the grower, retail and consumer. Since 2018, Karma Plants has therefore fully committed to it. It is an economical and sustainable system in which the plant only absorbs the water it needs...

Recycled irrigation water

A completely new water technical space has been built on the newly built nursery in 2020 with the latest techniques for the reuse of irrigation water. In the same period, the water technical area of the 'young plants' location was also connected to the new building. All this has made it possible that the nursery is now completely sustainable with the water.

The new sustainable way of growing

The cultivation system 'Grown with Waterwick' is the new future for sustainable cultivation! It has many advantages for the entire market, such as the grower, retail and consumer. Since 2018, Karma Plants has therefore fully committed to it. It is an economical and sustainable system in which the plant only absorbs the water it needs. Having your own water reservoir means that no water is wasted. In addition to the ease of watering, this system is now also the solution for peat-free cultivation. The entire 9cm range is already finished!

Cultivation pot with Waterwick string

All plants of Karma Plants currently have a 'Waterwick' string in them. This happens at the very first moment when the plant is placed in its cultivation pot. With this, the plant grows from the first moment with the knowledge that the nutrition comes via the Waterwick. Using the 'Waterwick' string, contact is made with water. The water contains the right nutrients that the plant needs to grow.

Ebb and flow pot

The specially developed white master pot (ebb and flow) has been a long process that took a total of three years to have the right mould. After lengthy testing and adjustment, this pot was finally developed successfully. The water is set up with water through the floor. A layer of water remains in each pot. At the moment all green plants are grown in these buckets and beautiful results can be seen.

The growing process

The white pot gives each plant its own water reservoir. This gives the plant the freedom to absorb the nutrients at its own pace and need. In this way, it is not possible to get too little or too much water. This ensures stress reduction and a more beautiful constant growth of the plant.

100% recycled irrigation water

A completely new water technical space has been built on the newly built nursery in 2020 with the latest techniques for the reuse of irrigation water. In the same period, the water technical area of the 'young plants' location was also connected to the new building. All this has made it possible that the nursery is now completely sustainable with the water. Below we will delve deeper into the processes.

Recycled irrigation water

All irrigation water is reused within the nursery. It is very important that the water is and remains clean, which is why investments have been made in a sustainable filter system at the recent construction build of 2020. All the irrigation water is the first to run over a sieve bend where all the dirt above 0.25 millimeters is already removed from the water. The water then runs through a special self-cleaning drum filter. This filter filters the water back to 0.02 ml. This makes the water extremely clean that it can be optimally disinfected and reused many times. The filter system also rinses water from sand filters. This unique situation means that it can be proudly said that a 0 discharge certificate has been issued from the Dutch water board. This means that all the irrigation water never leaves the nursery and therefore everything can be reused.

Water disinfection system

The outlet water is disinfected by means of ozone. Ozone is an unstable gas that can be made by sending compressed air past spark plugs. When the gas has made ozone, it is sent through the water by means of venturi. At that time, the ozone reacts to bacteria and fungi to which they 'burn'. The moment the combustion has taken place, ozone changes back to oxygen. At that moment a very high oxygen content is created in the irrigation water. This allows the irrigation water to be optimally absorbed by the roots of the plants. This is also the reason that the roots of Karma Plants are very white due to evidence of optimal effect.

Own water reservoir

The green plants are currently being produced with this new cultivation system. Here each plant has its own water buffer. This allows the plant to absorb nutrients such as water and vitamins according to its own needs. No more stress is experienced in the plants due to a shortage or excess of water intake. This gives a nice stable growth in the lots and strong root formation.

Concept table Grown with Waterwick

The GWW (Grown with Waterwick) concept table for garden centers based on the ease of the Waterwick and the wide range. We offer a great diversity of flowering and green plants. The aim is to add one or two new plants to the collection every year to keep surprising the customer. Below you can download the 'sheet' which shows how easy setting up can be. We will explain step by step what gives even more benefits.

The Concept table for Garden Center

Any existing table, large or small, in the garden center can be converted and used as a 'Grown with Waterwick' table. It depends on the wishes of the client. The diversity of the plants is already so wide that a nice combination can be made with the flowering anthuriums but also the tropical green plants. This makes the concept very diverse and makes it clear for the consumer that every plant is provided with a 'Waterwick' and therefore has the benefits of easy caring.

Ease of watering

One of the workplace problems in garden centers is watering every plant on the table. So this has been taken into account. With a smart and 'free' way of using Floratino trays, a natural water buffer can be created in a simple way. You turn the trays around and simply place the plants in the trays. Here you see that the plants 'float' above the table. The employee on the floor only has to let a layer of water run into the table. The plant then absorbs the required water according to its needs by means of the fuse. This way every plant has access to the water.

Less waste

A nice result is that the plants can individually absorb the water that they radiate freshness. The plants retain their flower and leaf color better, which keeps them looking fresh. This will also be seen by the consumer and you will no longer have dry plants that subsequently fall out.

So you have a fresh table, with the ease of watering and also no extra costs. For more questions, download the sheet above and contact us so that a suitable solution can be made for you.

Add water

Take a ceramic pot that is waterproof. Fill this decorative pot with water up to the bottom of the cultivation pot.

Placing plant

Sometimes the ceramic pot is already made in such a way that the cultivation pot stays in it nicely. Otherwise put stones at the bottom.

Enjoying easy

The plant drinks at its own pace, taking in only what it needs. During the summer you will have to fill the pot more often.
